Marine Surveying Services
Surveys are tailored to the vessel, its age, and your objectives—whether you are purchasing, renewing insurance,
or documenting damage.
Surveys designed around the decisions you’re making
Each survey type is built around a specific purpose. Choosing the right scope helps ensure you have the level
of detail you need—without paying for work you don’t.
Pre-purchase survey
The most comprehensive survey, focused on buyers. The vessel is inspected in and out of the water where
possible, with attention to hull, structure, systems, and safety gear.
- Haul-out inspection when arranged.
- Sea trial (owner or broker operated) when requested.
- Condition & valuation report with photos.
- Oil samples and submission for lab analysis can be provided when requested.
Insurance / C&V survey
A focused survey for existing owners or policy changes, capturing overall condition and key safety items
in a format insurers recognize.
- Documented safety equipment and expiration dates where visible.
- Notes on significant deficiencies affecting insurability.
- Opinion of fair market value.
Damage & incident survey
Assessment and documentation after groundings, storms, or impacts. Helpful if you are coordinating with an
insurer, attorney, or repair facility.
- Photographic documentation of affected areas.
- Scope of observed repairs needed.
- Support for discussions with yards and adjusters.
Appraisal / valuation-only
A limited-scope inspection and valuation used for estate planning, donation, or transaction documentation when a full condition survey is not required.
- Visual walkthrough of major systems.
- Market comparison research.
- Written valuation letter or short-form report.
What to expect on the day of your survey.
The exact flow varies by vessel and yard schedules, but most surveys will follow a familiar rhythm.
Inspection flow
- Arrival and brief conversation about your goals and priorities.
- Out-of-water hull inspection, if haul-out is arranged.
- Onboard inspection of decks, interior, machinery, electrical, fuel, and plumbing.
- Sea trial when included in the scope.
- Wrap-up conversation outlining major findings and next steps.
After the survey
You will receive a written report in PDF format summarizing observed conditions, recommendations, and an opinion of value where applicable. Reasonable follow-up questions are welcomed as you review the findings.
